Origin Story

On October 9th 2024, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong posted wedding photos on X showing himself walking down the aisle with his wife, Angela Meng, accompanied by their white Akita Inu.

The crypto community quickly found the dog’s name was Russell after Emily Hanks (wife of co-founder Blake Byers) left a wedding congratulations reply (since deleted). From that viral moment, Russell was adopted as the unofficial mascot and protector of the Base blockchain.

Holiday Pajamas

To celebrate the holiday season, Brian Armstrong shared a family photo on X alongside his wife, Angela Meng, and their white Akita Inu.

Dressed in matching dog-patterned holiday pajamas in front of a towering illuminated tree, the trio spread festive cheer. Once again, Russell stole the spotlight as the community's favorite mascot.
